What is wrong with you? Becoming an Eagle Scout or Gold Award recipient is a lifetime achievement. You are always an Eagle Scout, just like you are always a Marine. Every year the Dean of Harvard Law School sends me and all other graduates a list of the accomplishments of the incoming law class and the number of Eagle Scouts is always listed.

Because no one would have an opportunity to learn, explore, enjoy, or excel by being a scout leader...thanks for letting us know (that you do not know anything about scouting)

Not a good use of your time unless you cant find paid internships, academic research
Its a great use of your time! Lots of valuable skills.Got the rest of your life for an office.
Yes but if they've been doing it in school for over a decade, they need to try new things.
For years, they have been the scout. As they’ve progressed in scouting they’ve been given more responsibility. Now as a young adult, they can continue in scouting as a leader or a volunteer at the council level. I don’t know why anyone would need to give it up to try new things. Volunteering takes a few hours most weeks, sometimes more if there is an event or overnight occurring. Not sure why you could do both a paid internship or academic research AND volunteer. Isn’t that what most adults do when they want to volunteer—they go to work and volunteer in their free time.
