If your kid is in AAP math and getting good grades, they can handle Algebra. I don't know why people in this area act like Algebra is sooooo difficult. In my private school, we all took Algebra in 7th grade as just a normal thing. You all are acting like it's Calculus III. It's literally x^2 + 2x -3 = 5. So scary...
Not worried about Algebra I. Worried about kid having to do Matrix and Multivariable as a senior, both of which I think are best learned in college (along with Calc), and probably completely unnecessary for anyone not wanting to go into hard sciences/engineering/math.
I didn't find matrix and multivariate harder than basic calculus. Matrix is an annoying class for some reason, though. IMO all kids should take statistics in high school (then probably again more in-depth later in college)
I quite enjoyed matrix, which I cannot say for any of the calculus I took. I completely agree with you that all kids should take statistics in HS/college. It's one of the fields of math that can be useful in not only daily life, but also in a variety of jobs. I also think all kids should take courses in anatomy and physiology, because it doesn't get any more basic than having the ability to make informed decisions about one's body.
