I guess I just don’t get why they’d do this with Russia but not other countries (& there are many!) guilty of human rights abuses, starting wars, etc. We let North Korea compete in the Olympics, despite having an evil, ruthless government. No one is banning Chinese athletes, despite their leaders’ human rights abuses and recent treatment of Hong Kong. Heck, people seem more upset with Russia than the Taliban right now. Should we ban afghan athletes, too? What Russia is doing is awful, but it’s far from unique.
It’s also a bit rich coming from Britain, which has effed up a lot of counties- so many of their former colonies are unstable to this day. Im not sure how much this has to do with it, but a number of Ukrainian tennis players have been pretty outspoken about their disappointment in their fellow Russian players who have not spoken against the war, either publicly or privately, or who claim ignorance about it when asked.
