I cannot believe any of you are defending the teacher, and I’m sickened that the school board voted to let him take early retirement. Probably the kid is poor, maybe he’s a minority to boot.

Thank goodness the local prosecutor isn’t a monster like those defending this teacher - he’s now facing felony battery charges and I hope he’s convicted and spends time in jail.

He waited a year too long to retire. IT IS NEVER OKAY TO ASSAULT A STUDENT! Even in states where (sickeningly) corporal punishment is legal, it is supposed to be meted out in a measured way, not an assault by an angry out of control adult. What the heck do you folks think children learn from being treated with violence by their parents, teachers, coaches?! THAT VIOLENCE IS OKAY!

Cannot believe this is even a subject of debate.[/quote]
