There is already an EDP National League and if you want to play a regional powerhouse, go to a regional tournament like CASL, JefCup, etc. Let's stop the travel. [/quote]

Get rid of the local league barriers to top teams playing each other as well, but give me a break - there's nothing wrong with going to national competitions or tournaments if you are a top team or player or speller or mathlete.  Nobody's making you travel.  I did it when I was young in multiple sports and academic competitions and enjoyed getting out of NOVA.  Don't make your kids hostage to the fact that you simply don't like leaving the house or area.
