Exactly. In MD the only age I am familiar with is 07. Of the top teams, at least the top 2 dont even play in ECNL. Yes BSC and MD United parents, you are not one of them. I d also bet the 3rd through 5th best non ecnl team would give the top two ecnl teams a run for their money. VA may be different but even there at least 2 of the top 5 teams are non ecnl.

That's one of the problems with this proposed league, it's a club v club setup. So if you're 07s are great but 08s not so much and 09s are aren't very good, then it will make for very uneven competition. These town teams don't have the player pool to be consistent across all age groups the way ECNL and GA teams (mostly) are.. Also, with 8 clubs stretching from VA to Maine- that's one per state, way more travel than ECNL or GA https://www.usysnationalleague.com/a...ew_1-17-22.pdf
USYS had a decent option with their open league, promotion/relegation based on performance per team. This is a big step in the wrong direction and it will fail miserably.

Yes. Exactly, nothing wrong with playing in GAL or EDP. UofM Baltimore could probably beat UofM or give them a run for their money. Funny thing is that they’ll never play to find out.

Pp that there’s nothing wrong with playing in those leagues. What’s the rub?

That’s why GAL and EDP exist. Nothing wrong with playing in the Scottish or Portuguese soccer leagues.

Exactly. There is already at least a league or two for families that want to dole out the cash to fly around and play youth soccer.

We need another one like we need a hole in the head.

When CCL started up with all their club-centered propaganda and how it's better than team-centered because it gives power to the DoC instead of coaches. I said shouldn't it be child-centered and they looked at me like I said the stupidest thing anyone could ever say. Think about that, to the youth soccer powers that be the idea that youth soccer should be about kids and not about adults is the stupidest thing a person could say. This is just more of that. State cup, regionals, nationals was the only thing left that was still merit-based where teams had to earn their place. As long as we keep putting $ ahead of children we will keep falling further and further behind the rest of the world.

I appreciate this pov but also acknowledge that coaches coach for money and clubs need money for fields, etc. and of course, a merit-based system can reward poor behavior as long as results are good. I’d like to read what your thoughts are on the abusive coaches thread and why club directors and parents tolerate and attempt to normalize such behaviors.

You hear that everyone: if your kids team wins one of these competitions it had nothing to do with merit.

No more than the ECNL gimmick to add more teams to a playoff system.

What on earth is wrong with doing this? There's nothing gimmicky about getting local or regional powerhouses to play other competition.

^^^ We got a live one! Reel them in slowly.

There is already an EDP National League and if you want to play a regional powerhouse, go to a regional tournament like CASL, JefCup, etc. Let's stop the travel.

Get rid of the local league barriers to top teams playing each other as well, but give me a break - there's nothing wrong with going to national competitions or tournaments if you are a top team or player or speller or mathlete. Nobody's making you travel. I did it when I was young in multiple sports and academic competitions and enjoyed getting out of NOVA. Don't make your kids hostage to the fact that you simply don't like leaving the house or area.

This is the death kiss for GAL. I agree ecnl clubs won’t touch this but I can see the top GAL and EDP clubs going for this.

This is for clubs which are not already in a "national" league. No ECNL teams would have a reason to join this. I'm not even sure it's allowed in the ECNL contract rules. Seeing the (financial) success of ECNL and, USYS trying to establish another league. There are plenty of clubs around which are not in ECNL. I mean, ECNL added a lot of clubs last year. So did GAL. Which means there is a more demand. Why let ECNL get all the clubs? As a club, especially ones at the bottom of ECNL, it might be better to be at the top of this new league where they will be able to compete in the "national" playoffs and get exposure then not qualifying. After all, exposure to college recruiting is the name of the game for these leagues and the reason there are so many willing to pay to play in them.
