The entire purpose of ECNL is to be a recruiting service for NCAA soccer coaches. That's why college coaches come to the event, and that's why players want to be there. It's not the only path, but it's the best recruiting path. The player motivations are varied by player - some are looking for scholarships, some have the money for college and want a ticket into a better school, some just like to compete and want to continue playing in college.
But so few players go to “the better” schools. Look at the list the clubs put out. It is not a way to cheat the system. Too many parents wake up to this too late.
Better is relative. What I meant was a kid goes to a better academically school than they otherwise would have if not for soccer. Are there a lot of these? Maybe not. But they do exist. A kid with decent grades that is able to get into a school they wouldn't have been as competitive for academically but being recruited for the soccer team puts them over the edge. You can't tell by looking at the list clubs put out because you don't know what kind of grades the kid got. For some kids just getting to a decent academic college is an achievement. Before you thumb your nose at the commitments to the Coastal Carolinas and Central Connecticuts, where do you think those kids would be going to college without soccer?
Just ignore Bobby. He’s jealous. I suspect his next post will bash Loudoun. Otherwise, great opportunity for the girls regardless of whether someone seems a school or program “better” or not.
