ECNL-R is trash to be fair. We are from the south, 757 area. Soccer in this area is so far behind, it's embarrassing. No ambition. Beach is content to dominate their small piece of VA.
I wouldn't say ECNL-R is trash, but there are only a handful of competitive clubs in it. It is not a well rounded league by any stretch. Beach competes in good tournaments. I see their teams in enough brackets. They play who they can for where they are located. Like a previous poster said, there isn't a bunch of ECNL teams near them, so not sure what else they could do.
It is all relative. I have two kids in ECNL and the ECNL groups normally only have a handful of competitive teams as well at a given age group. The bottom half of the ECNL groups are not very good (relatively) either which makes it not well rounded just like you can say for the ECNL-RL. The top of ECNL-R is not trash and can compete, even with the middle of the ECNL teams when given a chance. A few examples - this past weekend at CASL. Beach 06 boys lost to NCFC ECNL 2-1 and watching the match, Beach was the better team. Richmond Kickers 06 boys lost to NC Fusion ECNL 2-1 but outplayed them and then turned around and beat NCFC ECNL 1-0 the next day, again outplaying them. I was surprised to see how good those two boys teams were to watch. The top of ECNL-R is very competitive just like the top of ECNL is. after that, there is a significant drop off compared to their respective levels. Looking at the results further it looks like that same kickers 06 team also beat UFA RL 2-0 and that UFA RL team was at the SC ECNL Showcase last weekend and were very competitive vs ECNL teams when they played. This is a couple of examples but I have seen it elsewhere when top half ECNL-R teams play vs ECNL teams.
Beach FC 09 boys got to the finals in the top bracket of that CASL tourney and then lost to a very good Pipeline team. In fact, I'd say that 09 Pipeline team is better than their 08's, cuz I watched both games, but didn't have a player in either...long story. I saw the Beach FC 08's won their bracket beating 3 ECNL teams from NC. Either way, the top of ECNL-R could easily swap with the bottom of ECNL.
