Just to be clear, if you have a current 9th grader or current middle schooler, they have the option to include or not include middle school grades for "high school-level" classes in their high school GPA's. i.e. Algebra, Geometry, language classes, etc. This is already policy. https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/policy/pdf/ikcra.pdf In June, the Board of Education resolved to apply the same policy to students who are currently 10th and 11th graders. The superintendent was supposed to have reported back to the board regarding "feasibility, issues, and possible timeline" by 12/2021. So there is not yet any mechanism in place to implement the policy. But the policy has already in principle been approved by the BofE.
Eh sorry I misspoke a bit : The BofE voted and said, "this policy change should happen." The superintendent is supposed to have "explore[d] the possibility of giving all MCPS high school students, regardless of the year they entered middle school, the opportunity to recalculate their high school grade point average without the grades earned in high school courses taken in middle school" and is supposed to have reported back to the BofE by next month. That's where things now stand.
