It’s not too difficult. You can get boxed bleach and dye from the store now. You’ll need to bleach first and then dye it. Err on the side of caution with the bleach. Darker and thicker hair needs more time of course, but just periodically check on it while it’s bleaching. Use a less intense bleach if you can, no more than 30 volume (40 volume is super intense). It’s better to use less the first few times as you figure out the correct volume and time needed, rather than go overboard and break all the hair. Once that’s done, you put the purple dye on. Periodically check to see if the color has gotten deep enough, you can wipe off a little bit of dye to check and then smear some back on the wiped off area.

FWIW going to a professional doesn’t guarantee it won’t get damaged. The worst my hair was ever damaged was at a very high end, expensive salon, where they used a very intense bleach and left it on for too long. I had to barely touch my hair for months because it would break so easily.
