We can't require an ID to vote, but we can require it to enter a business?
We SHOULD require an ID to vote. I can't understand why Democrats think this is unfair. All other developed countries do this.
Can’t speak for others, but my view is that voting is a right, whereas going to a bar is a privilege. Even without a mandate private businesses have the right to refuse service to those whom they deem a hazard to others.
NP, and I agree with this. Also, I wouldn't object to an ID requirement if IDs were free and easily available. If the nearest DMV is far away and perhaps not even accessible by public transportation, and Rs in your state are closing DMVs in predominantly minority or D areas, and it costs money, and requires documents that also cost money, then you're putting unnecessary obstacles in the way. If you can get your ID at an accessible office for free, then I've got fewer problems with it. Our ID system isn't like that in most developed countries. In fact, I'm old enough to remember conservatives screaming that a national ID was the Mark of the Beast and socialist and a terrible idea. It's also the case that voter fraud that would be prevented by ID is vanishingly rare. Whereas COVID is currently killing over 1,000 Americans a day.
