The US builds infrastructure at an absolutely snail’s pace. Meanwhile China used more concrete in 3 years recently than the US did in an entire century. The US is truly becoming dysfunctional for any public project that requires long-term coordination and effort. The only thing we seem to be able to do is fund private-public partnerships with extremely high levels of extrinsic motivation and very narrow deliverables that only depend on the competency of a few people (eg the vaccine). even then we massively f-up the basics often (eg the J&J factory failures in basic industrial hygeine.) We have no discipline or drive; the only time we succeed is when it’s a project that we literally throw unlimited money at.
+1000000000000 Americans are shockingly out of touch how behind they are with the rest of the world. The US is barely a 1st world country. Go travel to Japan, SK, Denmark, Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong, or even China if you want to see 1st world infrastructure. The US is barely above Latin America at this point.
