Why would the age of the babysitter make any difference in the pay rate?  I could see paying more for more years of experience, but why pay more just for somone who is older?  That seems unfair.[/quote]

Np: I didn’t necessarily pay just on age but it ended up working out that way when my kids were very small (infant/toddler ages). If we were going out for a short time in the evening and left after bedtime, I’d hire a high school girl for less (I think she charged $12/hr). For longer jobs or daytime (when the kids were actually awake) I used an adult sitter who charged $18/hr. Both had their uses in different situations. Those rates are from over 10yrs ago.

On the rare occasion we need a sitter (my DC are 12 and 10 and we just use one if we will be out late)- we use a high school girl who charges $15/hr. She is just here to make sure the house doesn’t burn down etc. lol. [/quote]
