NP. I'm in DC. My six year old is allowed to walk around the block and she is the only kid remotely close to her age doing that. Other parents have expressed concern to me about it, including of the your kid will get kidnapped/I should call the cops on you variety. Norms on this stuff have changed enormously since I was a kid. No one where I live is is letting their kids that age ride their bikes around. [/quote]

NP - I also grew up in DC. I think "wandering around" is different than walking around your own block. DC (and cities in general) vary so much from block to block that it truly depends on where you are located. Ours is a cul-de-sac with neighbors of all generations who look out for each other, so I don't think this idea is necessarily crazy just because it's DC. [/quote]
