That's what I thought, too, and I don't get how that's racist.  The characters in that documentary are white, and they are clearly identifiable people.  It's not like dressing up like some ethnic stereotype (a geisha, a gangster, etc.).  It's dressing up like a famous couple.  [/quote]

I have a feeling there was a confederate flag involved. It would be in character fir a tiger king costume and yes, OP, it is in bad taste. You should have apologized instead of doubling down that you guys were just having some fun.

I don't see where OP doubled down on anything.  She and her husband left the group chat.  Other family members told the brother and girlfriend that they were overreacting.

And while the use of a Confederate flag would definitely be in bad taste, bad taste isn't the same thing as racism.  Unless something about the costume suggested that they were endorsing the flag or what it stood for, versus using it as part of a costume depicting a racist person.  (Assuming there even was a flag involved.)[/quote]
