Aha, OP here, I am happy to see someone else noticed the flaw in this proposal.  Also what would be the status of all those children on green card holders.  Would they just get green cards, which as you know is a residency permit not an entry permit - or woud you create a new category just for them.  [/quote]

12:07 here. As I mentioned to another pp, a special provision could be put in place:

Minor children whose parents entered the US legally and hold continual legal status, would automatically be granted US citizenship at age 18. [/quote]

Ok, that could work, but what happens if a parent commits a crime and get deported (green card holders can be deported) before the child turns 18.   Also, would these children be eligible for the presidency?  Would you reinterpret the meaning to "natural-born citizen".  [/quote]
