She was a troubled teen.  The show didn't get into it, but she wasn't seen as a typical teenager.  Many people thought she started the fire, not just that she was unable to alert her parents. [/quote]

I can't quite remember.  I believe she thought it was drugged.  There was more emphasis in the book about David keeping her drugged all the time.
