Generally speaking, yes on your second sentence. The volunteer led teams means there is no consistency in curriculum like training, tactics etc across those teams. And they can and will steal players from each other—the volunteer led teams are not stratified meaning the best talent that isn’t in the academy isn’t on team Black and the next group on ye Silver—BRYC never has their best players all together in the same team. The volunteer coaches don’t work together. The non academy teams also will never be in ECNL.
Are they playing in the same league though ? Meaning ODSL and the Elite academy teams. How many of the Elite academy players make the promotion to the ECNL teams from ELITE teams after u13? What is the cost to be on the ODSL team vs the Elite being they play in the exact same league? It all sounds so confusing. Are any other clubs this divided within?
Academy teams don't/never play in ODSL. Elite Bridge teams (volunteer/parent-led) and full Elite could both play in NCSL until U13/U14... but generally area not in the same divisions within NCSL. Whenever ECNL begins is when the full Elite and Elite Bridge would not be playing in the same league. ECNL league will get the players exposure to college coaches. NCSL generally won't. I don't know the answer to the second question. But, if there is a player on a Bridge team who wants to play ECNL they have to be proactive and go tryout for the ECNL teams. There isn't an active promotion and relegation system of players for the Elite ECNL teams from Elite Bridge and ODSL and vice versa. ODSL and Elite Bridge team costs are similar as the poster above intimated and you can see the discrepancy for the full Elite. One difference about the add-ons for the ODSL/Bridge teams is they will have additional add-ons if they want to bring in their own paid/professional trainers to augment what the volunteer head coach/staff is already providing. Full Elite doesn't have those additional add-ons. It's not enough to cover a $1K gap either probably.
I am at BRYC and yes the former ODSL teams play in the same league as our academy elite teams the NCSL. The main difference is your getting a volunteer coach as opposed to an academy coach. Honestly after u13 the academy elite teams are more less and after thought. The club values the ECNL teams only. The add ons talked about above are tourney fees , team equipment benches. balls. coaches travel expenses per diem etc. and uniform cost. all of which both academy and bridge teams pay on top of the club fees. My son plays on an ECNL team so I dont have a horse in the race. I do think the bridge teams have a better deal for what both get out of it.
