I made the mistake of watching Steel Magnolias on one of the weekends my 14mo was at his fathers. We lived alone in the country at the time. Just the baby and I. No neighbors within 3mi, no family in the area, no friends. I'd talk to my mom every day, but as she was 1500mi away, she couldn't do much. I did work FT, but no one knew where I lived (no mail delivery, just a PO box). If something like that had happened to us, it would have easily been more than 3 days before someone noticed something was wrong. DS was too little to use a phone, open a door, feed himself. After watching the movie, I think I called my mom and just sobbed.

I still have nightmares about this kind of thing and we live with family now. Dying alone with DS is one of my biggest fears, not only for what it would do to him, but the fact that he'd have to go live with his dipshit father afterwards . . . just one of those things I've tried to prepare for but also try really hard not to think about. Ever.[/quote]
