Adding on- we also saw yesterday why police need to be able to give pursuit in defined circumstances. There is no way to "catch" someone now aftee the fact based on footage, with stolen plates, masks, winter clithing etc obscuring the crime. You need to physically apprehend car thieves and jackers and gun waving bandit fools in the act to stop this blight. And sometimes, that takes a chase.
They weren't even trying yesterday. They just let those people walk out and go home. They were in a building, and they could have fairly easily rounded them up, handcuffed them, and carted them off to jail. They didn't even try. But somehow, that proves that they should be able to engage in high-speed pursuits on city streets? One thing that Wednesday showed me was how easily officers could show restraint, which makes it all the more egregious when they don't exercise restraint against people who are much less of a threat than literal rioters and seditionists.
