Sadie is a nickname for Sarah.  What you propose is like naming a kid Tommy Thomas.

Yeah, most people don't think of Sadie as a nickname for Sarah.  I don't.  Sarah isn't traditionally nicknamed in the way that Thomas is, so your analogy doesn't hold.  Sadie and Sarah are two distinct names; at least with most nicknames, they're shorter and derived from the name itself.  Calling Sarah Sadie is like people who name their kid Thomas and call him Chip.[/quote]

Sadie has been a nickname for Sarah for over two hundred years, and eventually became a name of its own.  Sally was a nickname for Sarah, too.  So it was quite traditional, it's just not that common anymore.
