My 13 year old has been starting loads and moving to dryer occasionally for the last year or so. He and his 9 year old sister occasionally help fold, but it’s so much faster to do myself that I mostly do it. The 9 year old will help me toss things into the washer to start a load. They both handle putting away and hanging if necessary. My 9 year old could not independently do the laundry because the washer is huge. I need a giant step stool to get everything out of it. She’d never reach the bottom. Actually, I started making the 12 year old love things to the dryer more regularly when he passed me height wise. It’s easier for him.
Also, I’ve recently started to mostly do each persons laundry separately. As the 13 year old has gotten bigger, the clothes take up more room. So I was having to run more loads anyway. So now I do mine and 9 year old, then 13 year old, then husbands. Used to be mostly separated work clothes for husband and would wash the rest with mine but working g from home is a whole different wardrobe.
