Subject: Do you still do your kid’s laundry?
Only did sports uniforms. Was nervous DCs would be tempted to do the wrong thing and wear something dirty. A health worry. It just wasn't worth it to me to worry. Or I didn't want to chance the team being affected if the correct uniform wasn't available.

My 17 year old twins started doing their laundry at 15. I got tired of the piles of clothes and the clean clothes mixed in with dirty clothes. I let them sort it out now. If they have nothing to wear but dirty clothes, it on them. That motivates them to wash but then they leave them in the laundry baskets for a week. I just move the baskets out of my way and keep going.

No, I do it, and I have girls 18 and 16. I'm not too worried; when the 18 y.o. gets into a college, then I'm going to prep her.

There are 4 of us-me, DH and two teens. Everyone does laundry. No one does just their own. Everyone has a turn doing a load of everyone’s things.

My 14 year old started doing his own last summer. Then during the school year I did it. This past summer he did his own again, and now it’s about half and half. He always takes his dirty clothes to the basement, and always puts his own clothes away. I always fold. I will sometimes say “I am doing some laundry. If you want me to do yours, have it downstairs,sorted, by 9”. Also, I fold in return for him hauling up the baskets of clean laundry.

Actually, I started making the 12 year old love things to the dryer more regularly when he passed me height wise. It’s easier for him.
Also, I’ve recently started to mostly do each persons laundry separately. As the 13 year old has gotten bigger, the clothes take up more room. So I was having to run more loads anyway. So now I do mine and 9 year old, then 13 year old, then husbands. Used to be mostly separated work clothes for husband and would wash the rest with mine but working g from home is a whole different wardrobe.

15 and 17, they have been doing their own laundry since they each entered 6th grade (11). Sometimes they wore wrinkled, dirty clothes (esp sports uniforms), but they learned quickly!

Family of three so we don't do separate loads for each person. 10yr old has to help sort, sometimes starts the wash, and has to put away own laundry. Our washer and dryer are stacked, so DC can't reach the dryer. DH and I usually end up doing most of the loads, with DC involved on the front and back end.

I admire the moms who go out of their way to train their kids for adulthood and I have nothing but contempt for those who baby their kids until they go to college without any practical life skills. Its disgraceful and its also "narcissistic mom" behavior.
That seems like a harsh judgement. My mom explained the theory of laundry to me before I left home. But she did my laundry for me because she considered school my job. Since I got a full ride scholarship that was a good decision.
And guess what- the laundry machines in college have instructions written right on them. It wasn’t hard to figure out.
That said, I am having my kids help more because I have a full-time job too and it is a way they can help the family.

Of course. I clean their rooms too. Their job is to be a kid and enjoy themselves.

Same here. My senior knows how to do laundry and will be just fine next year in college. Right now, it’s just more efficient for me to do full loads for the whole family on a regular basis. It doesn’t make the kid any less capable.
