In 1980, my district in Pennsylvania saw the school board taken over by a well-funded group of wealthy homeowners without kids in the schools. They did a pretty tidy job of dismantling programs, shrinking the school budget and openly stating that the schools were a failed burden on taxpayers rather than the engine that drew many of us to move into that district. That's what happens when money gets people put in charge of public institutions with the specific intention of dismantling them. It works and we see it today with current administration. People have no idea how much money is behind these movements.[/quote]
