Plenty of clubs going. Nothing but a bunch of scared people here that don’t realize California, Texas and Florida have nothing to do Virginia. Many here also don’t understand the rise in cases is due to “Probable Cases” which is based on computer models using Contact Tracing. Many people here don’t realize the deaths are continuing its trend downward. And many people here choose to keep they’re kids inside while depression deepens because parents lack the time to research things themselves on the CDC website. You people are miserable. Outdoor Youth sports are fine. Bars, clubs, restaurants and indoor events are not.
Who is going? Please list names? I hear that some clubs are pulling out.
Richmond Strikers, FCV, Arlington, Pipeline, and Bethesda from our area. Have not heard about Loudoun. Some Maryland United teams are not going.
Kids are just not in shape to go and play a tournament. On top of hotel stays and increased Covid exposure jumping into a tourney with little real contact training is just an injury in the making for lots of older kids. Take Covid out of the equation and the injury risk alone makes the tourney a bad idea for lots of kids.
Sorry but schools and clubs typically do two week practices before doing a tournament or beginning the season.
Considering the non-existent spring season ending in March after minimal Jan-Feb practices and the short lead up time to Jeff Cup no, kids have not experienced this amount of lay-off before a tourney before. Most seasons end in mid-late June so kids are mostly just off a month to a month and a half. Less so if kids play Super Y or other training and soccer camps. You are free to do what you want of course but our club is not attending and I agree with the injury risk. I’d much rather clubs focus on getting some scrimmages together, stay local and accomplish the same thing essentially for free. As a showcase it will bomb and as a tournament it will be subpar and even considering it nothing more than scrimmages it just isn’t worth the money. There just are few compelling reasons to play in it.
