You people are miserable. Outdoor Youth sports are fine. Bars, clubs, restaurants and indoor events are not.
Who is going? Please list names? I hear that some clubs are pulling out.
Richmond Strikers, FCV, Arlington, Pipeline, and Bethesda from our area. Have not heard about Loudoun. Some Maryland United teams are not going.
Kids are just not in shape to go and play a tournament. On top of hotel stays and increased Covid exposure jumping into a tourney with little real contact training is just an injury in the making for lots of older kids.
Take Covid out of the equation and the injury risk alone makes the tourney a bad idea for lots of kids.
Sorry but schools and clubs typically do two week practices before doing a tournament or beginning the season.
Sort of. Our school has (well, had) optional practices several days a week and fitness and weight rooms throughout the Summer, followed by a one week camp away and a couple weeks before schol started. Our former club (DA) started six weeks before the season, though kids had fitness routines they did all Summer and we did have some scrimmages after about three weeks.
Agree, DA clubs as well as ECNL do train over the summer. While not mandatory kids just don’t stop playing in a organized setting the way we have been the last 3-4 months.
Even the earliest kids have been able to train with their team now has been mostly drill based without scrimmaging. That helps but it isn’t the same fitness that a real practice provides.
The only question is that there is literally six weeks between now and the younger girls JefCup. That is more than enough time.

What kind of injuries are players more likely to get if they play soon after a big layoff?
