Our coach was worried more about the kids fitness levels (or lack thereof) after the break such that a bunch of games jammed together in a short period of time was just an invitation to injury.
What kind of injuries are players more likely to get if they play soon after a big layoff?
At minimum, muscle pulls / tears that can take some time. Most major clubs are following return to play guidelines that are minimum 6 weeks - which for MD and VA meant sometime in June. Of course, the reality is many families are going to Beach / family I etc so for most kids it’s not a consistent 6 weeks. Then add on summer evening t storms - a lot of practices get cancelled. I think you really need a good 8 weeks given the variables. Our coach has been stressing fitness levels in general in return to play and has not ramped up fast.
