College coaches don't care who is picked and who isn't. They watch for themselves and make their own evaluations. Having gone through it with my own son (he made a team 3 out of 4 possible years), I would say they get it about 85% correct.

There are like 1 to 3 kids that you would question every year.  Generally, it felt like they had to add a kid cause he was a public school kid  from MD or VA, or balance out the fact that the best HS club will have the most players on the team.  And in my son's experience, I would say those kids do seem to not play quite as much (in particular, in the playoffs or against some of the bigger regions).  But he had a great time, made some strong friendships that he still workout with when he is home for the summer and loves to play against them in college.[/quote]
