I don't know!  Someone somewhere loved him very much and trained him very well.  They told us his original owner moved abroad.  He even knows to "wait" before he eats!   They told us he doesn't like other dogs, and we were like, fine, we have a fenced yard, but when we walk him he is mostly completely oblivious to other dogs.

I raised a GSD from puppyhood and he was a land shark.  And he grew so fast!  That's what I would worry about- you really need to socialize a dog that's going to grow that big to be safe around other people, other dogs, and children, and how can that really get done right now in this covid mess?  That was part of the reason I hesitated to get a puppy despite the fact that I have young children and I was similarly worried about getting a dog with issues. [/quote]

Me again- if you are open to adopting a dog and browse petfinder, try not to judge the dogs based off their photos.  I don’t know what it is about shelters and rescues photographing dogs to make them look awful.  Our dog looked like a terribly pathetic thing in his shelter photo and in real life he looks like a handsome purebred GSD.  You can’t know for sure if it’s a purebred without papers but most of those dogs look nicer than their photos.[/quote]
