My sons hair is extremely thick and grows incredibly fast. They both look ridiculous right now. It is way too long over their eyes (they try to slick it back), hanging down over their ears, bushy mess. I don't micromanage their hair. They will ask for a haircut when they need one. They need one, but have not asked because they know that mean either my or my husband will have to do it and they have photos from when they were little of what that looks like  .
Same with my daughter and husband. One visits hair salon twice per month, and hubby visits barber almost every week (to trim beard). Though now during quarantine we obviously don't go anywhere and thus now I'm responsible for haircuts and grooming in our family. I had a lot of practice  I also got a pair of cutting shears like this https://hairmadnesssalon.com/best-hair-cutting-shears/ because using standard ones can harm hair badly.
