Playing is how young kids learn.[/quote] This is just not true that your child is just playing at home is going to be adequate to prepare her for 1st grade. Lots of things are expected in K such as reading, reading comprehension, writing, math (groups, addition/subtraction, etc..). If you are in DCPS and not getting a lot, then look up what is expected in common core. Work on reading level A books with her and asking her questions if she understands some of the things in the book. Practice with her writing her letters and short words. Work on additions/subtractions, groups of 5, etc...[/quote]
