Unemployment is now $1,000 a week lay then off
+1. I work for a small non-profit (less than 10 employees) and now my husband and I both work from home and at the same time, we have to watch both kids, age 4 and 2. I wish to get lay off so that I can collect unemployment and just watch the kids. I am not saying this in a flippant way but it's been such a struggle to work from home and watch the kids.. my stress level is so high.
You can take 12 weeks of paid leave. There are upper limits to how muhc you can be paid, but it may still be worth it. https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/treasury-irs-and-labor-announce-plan-to-implement-coronavirus-related-paid-leave-for-workers-and-tax-credits-for-small-and-midsize-businesses-to-swiftly-recover-the-cost-of-providing-coronavirus See Paid Leave section.
OP beware- employers with <50 employees can apply for exemptions with the DOL. If your employer has <10 employees odds are good they will get one. FYI. Few employers of that size have the cash flow (particularly a non profit) to float that.
