Teslas can use "everyone else's" charging stations with adapters. Every Tesla comes with a J1772 adapter for free, and ChaDeMo adapters are a bit pricey ($350) but certainly exist. Meanwhile other cars cannot currently use Superchargers. If (and it's a big if) "everyone else" ever starts getting equal to Supercharger convenience, speed, and price, Tesla owners can just switch to them if they want.
