I don't see why it would ever be Tesla vs everyone else. Teslas can use "everyone else's" charging stations with adapters. Every Tesla comes with a J1772 adapter for free, and ChaDeMo adapters are a bit pricey ($350) but certainly exist. Meanwhile other cars cannot currently use Superchargers.
If (and it's a big if) "everyone else" ever starts getting equal to Supercharger convenience, speed, and price, Tesla owners can just switch to them if they want. The better "everyone else" gets, the better it gets for Tesla owners.
Yes but at some point the infrastructure for everyone else could get good enough that "better" won't make a material difference.

If you do any travel, go with the Tesla.
Which Tesla do you mean? The base model 3 has less storage and the same range. The AWD has better range but also less storage and quite a bit more expensive. The X and S have more range/storage but are WAY more expensive.
The storage is about the same when you factor in interior + trunk + frunk.
As for range, it's all about the Tesla Supercharger network. Many more charging options and speed when you're on a trip.
