So no one potty trained a three-year-old in one day?
No... that’s not reasonable. Three day weekend, sure. A week without bottoms, sure. Occasional accidents, no matter how old they are when you train, absolutely. I’ve trained 6 kids. 2 were 3-3.25, 1 was 2.5, 1 was 2, 2 (twins were 16 months). When I say they were potty trained, they knew they had to go, moved towards the toilet or potty and were at least trying to get clothes out of the way (twins couldn’t undress themselves without help). Both kids who trained at 3-3.25 (boy and girl, separate times) were ready earlier, but I delayed due to major changes (move for the boy, custody issues with mom for the girl). Both were bringing me a clean diaper before they went, I just wanted to make sure that there wouldn’t be major backsliding after training. We did a three day weekend in underwear for each, with minimal issues afterward. Both wanted to wipe themselves from the get go, so I just made sure they bathed at least once per day (just water for everything but their behind). 2.5yo (boy) did a week and a half without bottoms, then he was fine. Very little warning before he ran, so we had several potties throughout the house and one in the yard, but he emptied them (I cleaned them all nightly). 2yo (girl) did a three day weekend with no bottoms. No poop accidents ever, minimal pee accidents even during the weekend. Twins (boy/girl) were 16 months. I tried everything, but the girl kept getting yeast infections, bladder infections and diaper rashes. We were going to do a few days bottom free to air out and try to get rid of the latest misery anyway, so I just offered the potty. Two days in and her brother was trying it too. It took 2-3 weeks for him to be consistent, but only about 5 days for her. On a side note, I tacked white lace on the seat of her underwear when we figured out she has to have plain white cotton or the bladder and yeast infections come back. Everyone else gets fun undies, and I didn’t want her to feel she was missing out.
