I’ve been a SAHM for the past five years. I have one in preschool and two kids in elementary. I’m considering going back to work but our family does not need my income. DH earns $2m per year. He has a demanding job so I have always been the default parent. DH said I should do what I want and what makes me happy. I felt a bit insulted as he seems to want me to get a job to keep busy but yet not be demanding so that it effects his work by upping his parental duties.
Agree that it’s insulting that your husband expects you to do a job on his terms—gets you out of the house but doesn’t interfere with his work. However, due to your high HHI you have another option. You can hire childcare to help you take a more demanding job while not interfering with his schedule. You could also talk to him about adjusting your responsibilities so you share more of the childcare.
