My DS (7) always gets a terrible red, raw patch of eczema and irritation when he gets a cold. Currently treating it with frequent vaseline and 2x/daily OTC cortisone ointment after a gentle cleansing with warm water. Is there anything else I can do?
This is NOT eczema! This is irritation from the acid and bacteria's and water in the nasal discharge. First of all while the cold lasts, star early to rinse the area with just warm water and dry really well. Do it regularly. Put some barrier. Natural way is olive oil or old fashion and effective way - butter as it has already vitamin D from milk. Others might have other suggestions. It has nothing to do with food, it is all about bacteria in his snoot. And not cleaning nose often enough. Have a klinex nearby and let him use it often to blow the nose
