Separated from traffic by a lane of parked cars and bollards. Even better would be making it at sidewalk level because curbs are better than plastic bollards. They also need to be connected. DC has too many bike lanes that don't start/end near other bike lanes. Gaps lead people to compensate, like riding on the sidewalk.[/quote]
