If there are 1000 qualified students and only 50 spaces, then the institution can create any criteria they want to select the 50. It's not discrimination against the other 950 students who don't meet the criteria. Say the school decided they wanted one kids from each state, but 500 kids applied from Maryland. It's not discrimination against Maryland if they still took only 1 student. For any college selection process, you are competing against students most like you. The more unique you are, the better your chances. If TJ was 98% URM and 2% White and Asian, then the White and Asian kids would be the unicorns and would stand out. [/quote]

Of course it IS discrimination against an overabundance of applicants from MD if MD is overly represented in the applicant pool.  This is simple math.  Sorry it eludes you 
Remember, racism is perfectly acceptable if conducted by the Left.  Treating someone as a "unicorn" on the basis of some immutable characteristic is likely prejudicial discrimination whether you admit to it or not (unless that characteristic has some intrinsic value).[/quote]
