Oh no! I am so sorry. Agree with the posters that say be there as much as you can. It is a hard place to be though and I get that. Can you touch and hold your baby’s hand? Read him books? I hope they figure out what is going on soon so they can treat it and you can go home.
OP. He's having apnea and he's a term baby. This is something apparently almost always experienced by babies born before 35 weeks according to the NICU. I'm in a better place today. I was able to holding his hand, pacifier and sing to him yesterday. He's very alert. He definitely knows me and responds well to my voice :)
my friend had a full term baby with apnea etc. The baby is now 2.5 years old and very typical/no ongoing issues. I think they had to use a breathing machine (cpap like maybe?) after discharge and check on her certain times of the night, but that did not go on forever. I'm sorry you are going through this, but so good it was discovered. They were basically told my friend that if their child hadn't been under observation (they had a bit longer road to getting the apena dx) the baby might/would probably have been a SIDS baby and this would have been the reason. Glad you got to hold your baby, and hopeful that things work out/recover well and quickly.
