Even if I never again set foot in a Catholic church, I’d still feel Catholic. It would still be how I view the world, how I pray, etc. What, then, would be accomplished by my not going to Mass or receiving the Sacraments? I’d feel a deep sense of loss, without having actually helped a single victim.
I left the church before the erupting scandals and at some level, I still feel Catholic, too -- but it's all tradition and memories, chants, robes and the smell of incense . There's no way there's anything truly good in such a scandal ridden organzation. Try the Episcopalians or Lutherans or Greek Orthodox. They have the Sacraments too. It will be a little different, but if you can't handle the differences, it suggests you're just locked into memories, not into anything "holy." And you're willing to support a criminal organization because it feels good.
