A kid who is not a good reader will not even try to read these books - wouldn't you agree on that?[/quote] One can be a good reader and be able to ‘read’ it but not be able to understand HP (or a higher level book) and you can be a poor reader and understand HP (or other higher level book) if one ear reads then as an audio book. Decoding/phoneme awareness are different from comprehension. All play a role in reading levels as well as other things like vocabulary and background knowledge. [/quote]
