I'm a 40yo black wife and mother--of the women I know from college, some are married, but many are still single. Most of the never married women also do not have children. I'd say they're normal/ordinary people--the dating pool is quite different for black women. I'm assuming you're white, and that the idea of never marrying is strange to you, since it's not common in your peer group. But it's not an uncommon occurrence among black women, for multiple reasons.
