It feels wrong to call her a cleaning lady because she has been doing more than that for last 15 years. Twice a week, 12 man hours. Very efficient and knows my house inside out. Since I pay by the hour, she will do everything that needs to be done to run a house smoothly. Laundry, cleaning, changing linens, windows, recycling, decluttering, organizing, food prep, cleaning car, garage, yard, babysitting, ironing, wrapping gifts etc. Basically she helps me to do whatever I need done.
That’s a part time housekeeper
Where do you find someone like that and how much do you pay? We have been living overseas and have become accustomed to this approach... daily. We're really spoiled, I know, but I also wonder how it's going to work out when we return to the US.
She started off just as a bi-weekly cleaning person at my house. I really liked her because of her attitude and the fact that she always had a smile on her face. She asked me for more work because some of her clients used to cancel on her frequently and she really needed x amount of income to survive. Since I am always working alongside her, I am able to guide her and she really understands what I need done. I pay her around $25 an hour, which is more than what she is being paid by others. She is super efficient and well worth the money, though it is by no means an insignificant cost to us. We have lived overseas too and we have been used to help. However, I think why it works for both of us is because I work alongside with her, pay her well, listen to her problems and generally treat her very well and with respect. She really looks out for my interests and how my house is running. She will always accommodate me if I have an urgent need for anything.
