Wealthiest COUNTIES in the US: 1. Loudoun County, VA 2. Fairfax County, VA 3. Howard County, MD 5. Arilngton County, VA 6. Stafford County, VA 11. Montgomery County, MD
No CA county? Where are all the CA counties? How do people in all those expensive zip code in CA pay for these houses? Where is DC? So, the wealth is not in DC or the close-in suburbs. But if you live in Loudoun county, DCUM sees you as a loser who couldn't afford DC.
People are much more highly leveraged in CA. Even the rich. Lots of monthly payments, with very little in the bank after all bills are paid. Most people I know in CA lease their cars. Seriously. I remember reading a statistic that the average Californian has a mortgage more than 5x their annual income, whereas the DC area (and most of the US on average) borrows only 3x their annual income. I absolutely believe this. It was a really interesting data set, as it examined the borrowing practices in all the MSAs across the country. I will try to track it down. CA and FL borrow A LOT more than the average U.S. homeowner.
