You do not hurt your chances of getting into Maury by having it at #2 as opposed to #1. That is not how the lottery works. Everyone is given a master number, and when it's your turn, they go down your list in order of preference from #1 to #12 to see which school has spots. You'll be matched with the first school on your list that has a spot.[/quote]

I agree with your last sentence, but in a sense you hurt your chances of getting into Maury by listing it #2 instead of #1: If you list it #2 and there is a spot at your #1 school when your master number indicates it's your turn to be placed, then you will get your #1 choice and you will not be waitlisted at Maury (though you could join the waitlist during the post-lottery period). This is a fine outcome if you actually prefer your #1 school, but if Maury is your top choice then you should list it as #1.[/quote]
