MoCo is finally cracking down and it's upping the stats. For a long time I never saw police around unless we called, now they are making their presence known in some of the gang / crime heavy areas. Thankfully.
Why is that? What were the police doing before? Or were more officers hired to deal with the issues? Great - but this is yet another cost of illegal immigration for county residents to bear.
Yes, the County Executive and County Council added new positions to both the police department and the state's attorney's office back in the fall to crack down on gang issues. Most gang members are born here, or are here legally. It's not all illegal immigrants. Remember, MS13 was created here in the US.
By Central Americans and anchors etc. So you blame the USA? How many millions or billions in aid have we poured into those countries? MS13 has been a problem in the DC area for over a decade. It's not PC to talk about it. Note Obama was our president for 8 years and MS13 ignored that as well as Trump, Bush, who ever. Crimes got and get reported. Connelly lobbied for money in about 2005 and so did Eleanor Holmes Norton. Long Island got some extra gang enforcement money recently but our politicians have been asking for squat or we'd have read about at least some new federal help. NY area isn't exactly flush with Republicans so why haven't our politicians been barking for more money even for all the unaccompanied minors? Ridiculous that local taxpayers have to bear the financial costs of federal policy. Some politicians act like identity theft isn't even a real crime.
Actually Obama and Rod Rosenstein did NOT ignore it. Rosenstein did a lot to tamp down on Maryland gang activity and it fell really low. Lots of federal grant money given. Lots of work done by his office on joint federal state local gang task forces. Gang activity has picked up again and the county is dealing with it. I’m not seeing much help from the feds these days.
