Or you could drive to Virginia Beach and take the bridge-tunnel. Now THAT is a freak show. In bad weather it feels like you are driving straight into the ocean
I’m new to area and had to go through Williamsburg to Jamesville Va and the Chesapeake Bridge/Tunnel was THE most terrifying drive. Messed up and Googled it later after reaching destination. It’s long, narrow, and flat. I think it’s 20+ miles and ranked as one of the longest in the US. Got there and swore I was stuck because I was not mentally able to drive over to get back. So decided to go north and around to get home, and then encountered the Bay Bridge. I had been hearing about this is traffic reports but never realized it was as massive. I convinced myself it was better, maybe because it was wider; but the height and curves are scary. This was a Sunday morning, and cannot imagine having to drive that daily or in more traffic, especially with the lanes change.
