Not the same issue, but I have teacher friends who have been unable to get COSAs to send their kid to the school where they teach. The principals I know who have made cosa requests have had better luck. I don’t actually think principals’ kids get preferential treatment for magnets, but I’m saying there’s no way that teachers do. We always get screwed.
Yup, this has happened at our school, too. We do have a couple of staff members who live in the neighborhood, though, and the principal asks them well before class lists are made up for the following year, which teacher they want their child to have and will put the kid in that class. But honestly, the requests of non-staff parents with specific preferences are also mostly honored, too, so it's not really special treatment.
