We've never found the beach to be "insanely crowded" at Sea Colony, and we've been in both July and August.  We stay in the condos on the beach, 2 br, 2 ba, and often pay around $2800 for the week.  (I'm a little picky about the kitchens and bathrooms and renovated units usually are more expensive).  We rent chairs and an umbrella by the week, and have the attendants set them up around 10am for us for the day.

We like to stay in the Chesapeake, Dover, and E (blanking on the name!) buildings because it's a shorter walk to town, closer to the sand castle contest, bonfire, and bingo.[/quote]
